Ryan Oakden
:
Ryan Oakden started skiing at the age of 2, in Fernie BC. An early life of ski racing combined with Fernie’s rowdy terrain shaped Ryan’s Big Mountain Style. High speed with solid style earned him international recognition on the Big Mountain Free Skiing Tour. In 2001, he won the world championships at Tignes, France. He placed in the top 3 at the Snowbird US nationals and 3rd overall on the World tour standings. His career as a Big Mountain competitor led him to ski all over the world and appear in various high profile ski movies (MSP’s Frontline, TGR’s Tangerine Dream, Warren Miller’s World of Skiing +) and ski magazines (Powder, FreeSkier, Skier +).
In the last few years Ryan has taken a quiet backcountry approach to skiing. Enjoying time at his cabin in Bralorne, BC sled skiing and pioneering Big Mountain Ski descents in the untouched ranges of the Southern Chilcotins.
Ryan brings his Big Mountain Ski Skills, coaching and backcountry experiences to WASA. |
